Customer
Service? NO THANKS!
By Martin J

It was a sunny morning. I'd just been to gym and then
collected my dry cleaning. Feeling on top of the world,
I passed a hairdresser advertising a special offer in
their window.
On the spot, I decided to stroll in and make an appointment.
The hairdresser glanced up at me and then returned to
her work saying just two words: "No Thanks". lummoxed,
I opened my mouth to speak. Before a word was out she
repeated more firmly "I just said to you: NO THANKS"

Measuring Happiness
Open up a magazine on the newstands and you will see
lists of people: world's richest, most beautiful, best
dressed and worst dressed. While no magazine features
a listing of the world's happiest people , researchers
have been working on a Global Index of Happiness. They
define happiness as "how much one likes the life
one leads" .
Collecting data using a variety of questions including
how many happy days someone had last week. (Good question...how
would you answer?), they have ranked 90 nations concluding
that the happiest people live in Denmark, Malta, Switzerland,
Iceland and Ireland.
In 1972, the king of Bhutan declared that his country's
development would be measured by gross national happiness
(GNH) not GNP. Commentators say he has a point. How
much effort do we focus on building, celebrating and
fostering genuine happiness in life rather than just
materially improvements? Interesting thought.
